EGR AND AIR PUMP
I THINK MY EGR'S ARE STUCK OPEN, CARS SEEMS TO RUNNING RICH.....HAS ANYONE EVER REMOVED THE EGR AND AIR PUMP...IT'S A 94 Z28...SHORT TUBE HEADERS, TRUE DUALS W/X-PIPE..K&N DUAL FILTER CAI AND HYPERTECH POWERSTAT AND PROGRAMMER
If the car is running rich, there is a good chanche one or both the O2 sensors are bad. If the EGR is stuck the SES lite should be on. Removing the EGR and the AIR pump does nothing for power. The EGR only operates at part throttle and besides controlling pollution it allows more part throttle spark advance givig more MPG. The AIR pump is electric and only works during engine warm up. I'll have to take a good look at my car, but the lite you are seeng may be the SES lite. Get the car scanned & see what is going on.
as soon as i get a chance i will get it scanned...i'm an ex importer so i'm new to the complex lt1...but if i can build a turbo'd eclipse or rx7 i'm sure i can build an all motor lt1...i've also recentlly replaced the water due to the wheep hole leaking...and after later research i messed up and didn't do the opti-spark upgrade to the vented style....also what are those tubes that come up out of the headers with the black valve type things that run back down...i thought those were the egr valves but i've also seen pics of the egr on the back of the intake plenum
I am sure you'll do fine. The tubes going to the exhaust manifolds are are the feed pipes from the AIR pump to the exhaust manifolds. The EGR valve lives on the rear of the intake manifold, under the windshield cowling. If water gets on the optispark it can cause damage, even if it is the vented type.
