drive belt pulley removal
i am trying to remove the drive belt pulley so i can remove my opti spark cause the last bolt holding the opti spark up is behind the pulley, the pulley has 4 bolts, 1 in the middle and 3 around the pulley, but whenever i try to take one of the bolts of the pulley turns, does anyone know how to remove it ?

You have to leave the hub on the crankshaft. Put the center bolt back in and tightent it up. With the 3 outside bolts removed you should be able to break the pulley and the balancer loose from the hub, might take some tapping to get the rust broken. You can also use a puller, but in this case remove the ceter bolt. See this link for pix. http://shbox.com/1/pull_pulley.jpg

are you trying to remove the outside bolts or do you have them off allready?, are you trying to do what pete said and pull the pulley? if your haveing trouble with the 3 outside bolts, put your belt back on and then loosen the outer bolts, that way it wont turn the whole balancer when you turn it, then like pete said you can pull it, or tap it off.

well i put the belt back on but the pulley still moves no matter what way i turn the bolts, the pulley is moving, the bolts arent moving at all, i have read that i can take a rubber mallet hammer and tap it from behind and it can come off, is that true ? if it is true does it just slide back on or what

soak the bolt in WD40. Put the center hub bolt back and tighten it up, then use this bolt wih a wrench to hold the pulley still while you loosen the three pulley bolts. To remove the balancer pulley, you really need a decent three prong puller with a cage to keep the prongs on the pulley. You don't need to remove the hub just the outside pulley.

The way I removed the three bolts hold the pully was, with the belt still on.
I put the wrench on the bolts then tapped the wrench with a hammer. The quick and powerfull movement allowed the bolts to come lose without rotating the motor.
And to remove it I went to advanced auto and borrowed the pully remover kit. Used the one pictured on shbox.com. Worked great.
Good luck.
