Ok, I'll disconnect the battery tomorrow...I have not disconnected it in a while. The last time I disconnected the battery was when I put the new starter in. That was about 4 months ago.

I'll try that tomorrow and see where that takes us.

Man I put a lot of time and money into this car and its frustrating not being able to drive it with confidence. I don't want to get stuck somewhere ...again...It left me on the side of the road about 1 month after I picked it up. Haha...I guess that was its way of welcoming itself into the family
It can be frustrating. Also, due to the age of the cars and all of our tinkering, we may at times cause some of our own problems when we yank on a connector or one has become brittle over the years and there are intermittant problems. I had an opti harness that was causing an occasional problem. I wanted to pound my head against a wall. I thought, "this is definitely ignition related, what haven't i done" I tried the harness, the problem went away and I kicked myself for being a dummy.

Now I just need to find a fix for the loose nut between the steering wheel and seat.

Yea I hear what you are saying. I'm always afraid when I'm working under the car that I'm gonna break something else.

Haha...oh well...the car is 14 years old ! Wow that's old...It has 137k on it too. When you see the actually number in front of you it seems old.

Ok I just called an auto parts store, and they said they have a test that shoots engine and check engine lights. I guess this is the one I need to use.

Is that right ?

OK so today I brought the car to the auto parts store and I checked it for codes. It pulled up three codes: P0400 P1657 P0100

one code was for the Mass Air Flow Sensor, and one code was for the EGR, and the other code the machine didn't recognize. It said it is a brand specific code. That is the P1657 I believe.

I just found it. My car has the Skip Shift eliminated because when the light comes on I can still go into 2nd gear.

P1667....Powertrain control module fault (quad driver 3), or reverse inhibit solenoid control circuit

Which one is it 1657 or 1667? If the description is correct then either the software load in the PCM is bad in terms of the Quad driver 3, the reverse inhibit solenoid has taken a crap, the wiring to the trans is bad, or the PCM is about to take a crap on you. The MAF and EGR can cause major driveability issues. Again this can be anything from the part, wiring, or PCM causing the fault.

What light are you talking about? The skip shift feature should happen behind the scenes with out the driver ever knowing. It is part of the trans software and not a soleniod. What I came up with is DTC P1657 1-4 Upshift Solenoid Control Circuit.

How does your car shift? If there is problems upshifting that is what is popping your code. Have a trans shop give your tranny a once over. It is worth the $100 most charge for the service.
