Default Coolant leak

Vehicle:

1995 Z28 M6 'vert.

Problems:

I have a coolant leak somewhere by the driver side tire. It only seems to leak when the car is on and idling.

When the car is idling, the temperature will spike to the red zone. If I start to drive, or even rev to 2k in neutral, it will cool back down instantly.

I also smell ethylene glycol in the cab when the heater is on.

I think i have a pinhole in the lower coolant hose, which in turn created an air bubble in the cooling system which then moves when i turn the water pump faster by revving it.

Or am i wrong? Thank you.

Not completely wrong.... it might be something else causing the air. I would say yes though. Is there any pooling of fluid or do you think its getting into the engine? The fix-a-leak stuff you can get is really just a temporary fix... I would look into it more and use the temp stuff if you really only need to use the car.

pick up or borrow a coolant system pressure tester. some parts stores rent or borrow them out. bring system up to pressure and see if you can find the leak. there are a couple hoses on that side one being the oil cooler lines that are steel that have hose on the ends to hook into the pump and radiator on one end, the steel lines hook into the oil cooler at the oil filter base on the other end. there are also a couple soft plugs on each side of the block. anyways if you can get it under pressure you may be able to find the leak a little easier. one more thing could be a leaky heater core,,, are you seeing coolant on the passenger side floor or coming out the passenger side under the heater core. the heater core has a drain there.

Default found the leak

Ok, so it is leaking on those hoses you told me, craby. It is both of the hoses with the steel pipe, and they are leaking right where the hose meets the pipe. Can I just put a hose clamp and some of the pvc leak tape on there? Or am I gonna have to replace the entire thing, and how difficult is the R&R?

Also, on the bottom of those two hoses, I noticed that there was a white frothy liquid right where it leaks. It could be nothing, but I wanted to make sure. I checked the oil and the coolant, and there is no sign of them mixing. Also have no lack of power. Thanks a lot everyone.

as a temparrary fix you can take the oil cooler out of the system. take both hoses off and add a new hose from the radiator to the water pump. best way would be to get new hoses if you can but im sure they are spendy. another way would be to cut the pipes and clamp the new hose to it. its not a hard fix. the oil cooler is what the oil filter screws into. the pipes hook into the cooler with a single bolt. i think rock has the hose to go from the pipe to the water pump, pretty sure the one to the radiator is the same size on both ends.
