Competition
Hello, Name is Tyler and I am 16.... I just recently picked up a 1993 camaro. Me and my father both own them and we are having a competition on who can build the best street/ daily driver car. So I have come here for some help from the pro's. Heres what I had in mind
1. comp street cam ( needs to be a daily driver )
2. roller rockers
3. msd ignition peices
4. cold air intake
Anything else? I want to get some power but not tooo much I am only 16 ... So have I missed any "small tricks" or "other" performance parts I can put on this thing??
Thanks,
Tyler

Before you do the cam I'd suggest putting on headers, a new Y pipe and a good cat back. You'll have more exhaust flow than your stock system can handle if you put on a bigger cam. Also, if you get roller rockers go for 1.6:1 instead of the stock 1.5:1.
So how many of you tune your own with a tuner like the Diablo Sport II from SLP, and how many of leave it to a shop? I would love to hear some gotchas and lessons learned from tuning yourself and what necessitated the tune?
TIA!

If he goes with the 1.6 rockers then he may need to get a tune also. The PCM may not like what the 1.6 rockers are trying to tell it.

Most of the "Power Programmer" type tunes are a $300 paperweight. Corvette Mag. got 3 RWHP and 4 RWTQ out of the newest Hypertech programmer for the LT1. Those handheld tuners are good for recalibrating your speedo if you change gears in the rear end, or overall wheel/tire size and setting the temp that the fans come on, they really don't get you any HP to speak of. The tune is best left up to the guys that do it all the time, you can get a laptop with the correct connector and LT1edit and have the same resources that the pro places have, but you still lack the experience. Your best bet is getting a full dyno tune from someone who knows what they're doing, after that you want to go for a mail-order tune such as PCMforLess.
