Default Code scanners

Well I was gonna buy a code scanner and realized some 95's are OBDI, and everything is OBDII.

So my sticker is gone next to the radiator that tells ya if its 1 0r 2. So I took a pic of my under dash plug in. Can someone tell me what it is.

I also looked at my cables for my lt1 software and on the top of it it said OBDII. took a pic of it also.

The car is OBDI but the connector is OBDII, so you need a OBDI scanner (not a code reader) with a OBDII style cable. THe other option is a scanner that can read both OBDI and OBDII data, as this type can handle both type connectors.

Thanks, Now that I look at that cable, I have a OBDII cable with a Serial end that I adapted to a USB, I bet that will work the same.......think it will?

i have a 95 as well with the obd2 plug but obd1 computer

i bought a cable from aldlcable.com and also have an actron 9145 scanner which reads the computer of the 95Z (not a cheap scanner though)

the cable i use for tuning. The scanner is a heck of a lot easier than lugging a laptop and it can drop and survive. But, the scanner also works on all of my obd2 cars

it comes down to how much will you spend and what's it worth to you

Me, I can toss the 9145 in my trunk and go to a friends house if they are having issues with a car.

IMO a laptop looks impressive but is overkill and too delicate to toss in in a toolbox and expect it to survive, let alone having to deal with the battery going dead in a few hours. A professional bidirectional scanner can do any testing that a laptop is capable of, plus has the ability to mimic the car's computer and send control signals as the PCM does. Such as forcing fans on, operating the EGR valve, firing injectors, etc.
