Many times overheating is due to fans failing to work when needed. Usually, depending on car, there is more than one way to turn on the fans. Some cars have temp sensors dedicated to just turn on the fans, some use a common sensor to signal the temp to the PCM, and the PCM then decides when the fans are needed. The AC always forces on the fans when turned on. What occasionally happens is that temp sensor or its wiring goes bad and the fan does not turn on. In this case, if the AC is on, the fan will be forced on and everyone is happy. If the AC is discharged it won't turn on and the fan won't get turned on, the car overheats, and everyone is pissed. Normally, the fans should turn on at the proper temperature regardless of the AC status, so the proper thing to do is to figure out why the fans do not turn on when called for.
having your ac not charged wont effectthe tempature of your car.
if you're car is overheating check the following:
water pump
t stat
allradiator and water pumphoses
ect-$15 (this was possibly my problem)
make sure you're coolant levels are ok
check you're fan relays and fan fuses
check you're fans
you can try to open the drain plug at the bottom passanger side of the radiator and cram the hose in the top of the radiator and flush it out(could be clogged)
hope this helps, i had overheating issue and this is what i did to fix it
yes you can get the recharge kit at kraigen for about 40 bucks, get the can and gauge, but it you dont ever need it and you dont want it theres no point in wasting the money
