Default to change gauges in a 97.....

97 t/a.... can you just take out the cluster and swap in a new cluster, or is there some kind of security/anti theft thing you have to swap to the new cluster?

the reason i ask is because the check engine light does not work and i believe the problem is in the circuit board so if that has to get swapped to the new cluster (like on fords for the anti theft) then it wont help me to swap clusters.

well I already tried swapping the CEL wire on the pinout with the brake wire and now the brake stays lighted on the gauge but the CEL still doesnt light up. I tried swapping the wires back and soldering on a new bulb for the CEL and still no go. so I'm thinking I'll just try swapping out the entire cluster and see what happens cuz I dont think I'm capable of finding the problem on the circuit board, if there is one.

if u are changing the whole thing u will be changing the odomiter also so i would recomend u document the change. pictures and such so when u try to sell and someone has questions u at least have a record of the change.
