Default Car turns over, but won't start

I just took my 1997 30th for a test drive and ran out of gas. Went and got gas but as soon as the car started it shut back off right-away. What could it be.Fuel pump? injectors? And how do I check before replacing either.

Most of the time when the car is run out of gas all the dirt from the bottom of the tank will get sucked in, along with air in the lines. Clogs the fuel filter and injectors. ...Put some fuel injector cleaner in and keep trying. It may also take a little time as the air is bled out of the system.

The submerged fuel pump in your car use the fuelto keep it cool. Running out of fuel causes the pump to overheat and damage the motor. Also as 74454bb indicated, the dregs at the bottom of the tank get sucked up and plug up the system, so it is agood idea to replace the fuel filter.Use the stickyon top of the LT1section to check out the fuel pump and pressure regulator. Also check the two FI fuses, in case one of them blew out.

Fuse #5 in panel at left side of dasboard. Also check fuel pump relay under foot rest on driver side. You can also test pump by conncting 12V from the battery to the pump test lead.
