but they say the ls1 ecu was built by the gods lol, and will go down in gm history.
so yeah the ltcc is basically the same thing the ford edis does and i can get that for under $100 at the wrecking yard so thats a pretty appealing idea to me. I'm probably going to throw a cover on my car and forget about it till spring. im considering a 80s vette and swap the lt1 into it and convert to megasquirt or eficonnections. or who knows put some afr heads on the lt1 and set things up like a normal 350. i got a lot of ideas but honestly im not sure what to do, but im not at all impressed how these 4th gens handle. i would rather dump cash into my 4 wheel steer prelude than this platform. i love how that car handles. fast cars aren't enough for me any more thats why i got away from the fox body mustangs. this car is better and no where near the rattle trap but i don't want to reinvent the wheel making it handle. what i like is the way the lt1 is despite all its draw backs and ive driven 6 speed ls1 cars and their fun too but i think theres no seat of your pants feel between both cars stock and the lt1 is cheaper and still a 350.
you guys are welcome to post your opinions and any interesting links or videos or plans you guys have or current projects in this thread. im trying to brainstorm idea and share info and get feedback.thanks

id have to say once you get into building the motor im pretty sure the lt1 is not cheaper. i feel like ive spent so much more on parts because its a damn lt1. i should read your first post cuz idk what your ignition problem is but its not hard to convert to a old school distributor. and if you want u can run it off a aftermarket computer. im not in to handling but i think these cars are suppose to be real good maybe with some suspension.

yeah probably not cheaper once you start building it. the car only cost me $1500 and i replaced the trans for pretty much nothing so if i can sell it and pick up a ls1 car this summer i will. i suspect even with only 107k my opti is read to crap on me.
since im more of a daily driver and not a drag racer i want a well handling powerful fun car. Reliability is nice, kinda like a mid 80s 350 truck, everything is cheap parts are every place, but nope the lt1 curse, lol
i want to do something, before the opti lets go. i would put money towards something else.
so im not sure if even the small hei with remote coil is too tall to get in there without lowering the motor or not

You can run an old style sbc distributor, with a 6al ignition box and a aftermarket coil...the truth is it will become much more expensive than replacing the GM opti. Make sure you go with the GM though, there is no other replacement. You will have to weld up the timing cover and go through all kinds of other headaches. I would only recommend changing the ignition system over if you are excited about the notion of delving into the wonderful world of GM wiring schematics.

wow!!!!
thank you!!!!
i almost forgot i have the crane cams FIREBALL HI-6 ignition with the fireball ps91 coil fully digital unlike the msd which is analog. it has provisions for optical or points or whatever or crank sensor.
so by running my lt1 with this will the ecu have any issues? my thought were leave the opti and everything there but dont use it for spark. heres the diagram for my crane cams fireball hi-6 model 6000-6420.
this thing can run about anything theres several versions of the hi 6 though, cranes outa business and got bought recently by a motorcycle company.
i geuss the pdf is too big to attach but here a link to the page its on
its the first one on the list

for some reason i cant find the actual pdf manual for the pn 6000-6420 as mine has a optical/ magnetic pick up tha has differant wires than they show. but basically theres a rpm limiter and im not sure what dial does what but theres 2 on it.
this was originally installed on a jeep 4.0 and it uses a ford style coil. but i think it would do the job on the lt1 im just not sure how the engine would perform with this and the lt1 ecu independent of each other.
