Default alternative ignitions for lt1, post it here

okay ive see alot of weird coil conversions over the years on lots of different car. cars with better systems than ours want to convert, yet theres not alot out there on ours and we have one of the worst ones.mostly do to location. when i had my porsche 944 people were using ford coil pack set ups with the whole Ford EDIS module.
i want to compile a list of stuff that works or might work from other cars not the ltcc thing. anyone can buy a premade kit. personally i want to run a stock 350 distributor and keep the fuel injection or go carb.

heres a great link to what im talking about.

the bottom line is i want a reliable car and not some junk thats hard to mess with or expensive parts. i have a strong low milage lt1 and i want all this fail prone crap off of it

and heres the must read for learning about going coil pack only. once you read you will see the ford edis is a stand alone and can run with no ecu present and you can get it off alot of junkyard cars and thats why alot of people use it.

heres a detailed write up about swapping a junkyard lt1 intake onto a reg sbc, in this case a 383 i think. he talks about drilling out for the dist so theres alot of good info here. his goal is what i think alot people are missing, simplicity and easy to find parts! and power

The problem with using a stock GM distributor in a 4th generation F-Body is the actual location of the distributor. There simply put is not enough room to have access to it installed without lowering the engine, or modifying the dash/firewall.

The LT1 with an Optispark is a good engine / ignition combination. The problem with it is that the entire spark signal goes through it, and that causes the creation of ozone, which in turn causes corrosion.

When the optispark fails or starts to fail, the vehicle's performance suffers considerably. Just like any other engine would when the ignition starts to head south. Only, on the LT1, the optispark is mounted behind the water pump and therefore is not nearly as easy to service as an old style distributor.

But putting an old style ignition on your LT1 powered 4th generation is not going to get you any more performance, and will only exacerbate your frustration when needing to work on it.

didnt read this whole deal but the way to go with coils is eficonnections run the lt1 off coils and an ls1 computer. has many benefits and there is no more opti at all.

yeah i think theres a link to that on there, saw it. and it will still work with the 4l60e but there will be some issues for my car for example since i dont have the pwm trans like all later cars do and the ls1 computer is probably designed for that. im sure theres a work around. if i didnt have this trans i would probably consider the hei dist or accel dfi and run a tpi ecu or something or just go carb. there alot of options out there. really everything about the lt1 is a pain in the *** in these cars from exhaust to ignition. its like this motor is more suited to swap into a bigger engine day

wen u do the swap u use a 96 timing covers because it has a crank sensor in the cover. give them a call they might be able to work with whatever trans u have the harness is a completely custom harness they made connections in mine for an electric water pump and for nitrous things.
