All Rear end help
i got a 95 z28 and i can never grip when im racing people i burn threw first 2 gears and chirp at the begining of 3rd even after heating the tires... i want to 4:11 the back end and i want to get some grip with tires. this is a daily drivin car also
my car NEEDS tires bad so here are some of my thoughts...
what should i do for rims/tires? should i keep stock rims and get some meaty (er) tires or should i buy aftermarket rims that are mabye a little biger and widder? what tires would work best for a cheap grip?
(btw im a college student so i dont want to spend to much money and i still have to be able to drive the car)

find out what gears u have to start with then look at what u want. is the car stock? u could pick up some used rims and put some dr's on them. then whenever u get the urge u can switch the rear tires. the problem with using dr's for a dd is poor traction on wet roads and really poor traction on ice or snow.

yes the car is all stock gearing wise (transmission and back end) ... yeah i do drive in the snow being in ohio. so would redoing my transmission gears and throwing a short shifter in be just as productive as 4:11's or could i do both and make it ***** to the wall quick in gears??

for highway and racing the 373 gears seem to be the best way to go on the gears with the 4 spd auto. or 370 in the 9 in. moser. do the rear first then the trans if its a money thing. im trying to get everything together before my trany goes so i can change it all at once. at least the front part,,, motor, headers, exhaust, and trany. then ill do the rearend, then paint.

Caby: alright thanks i figured i would save transmission for verry last since that seems to be a very expensive thing to do since its best to do it all at once...
whammer: i do want to hook as best as possible while still being drivable... how would i do the lowering the control arms and stuff would i need to completely lower the entire car or just the back end? (iv never done anythin with susspensions)

Hey fellas,
I have a question regrding the rear end and it seems like there are a couple people here who are knowledgeable. I want to beef up my 96 z a bit within my budget. I have a local guy here parting out his z28 and he has a 3:73 rear end and I am considering gettin it but im not sure if it's a good idea. Any thoughts??? The car i have is stock by the way.

this is just my personal experince on this topic
I have a 95 z with a lt4 conversion and cammed with 3.73 so like you i was looking for traction anywhere. The way i found it was i went out and bought some c5 zo6 rims (18x9.5 in rears) i mounted them on some 275/40/18 NT555R which are Drag Radials. That was the cheapest way i got traction i still have to pedal it from time to time depending on how heavy my foot gets without heating them up.
