Default air intake problems:( back fires....

hi guys, i just bought a new K&N air intake for my 95 LT1, my old one had a rip in the rubber, so i installed it, everything seems to be on nice and tight, checked a bunch of times, reset my cpu (unpluged negative for 5 mins) and now for the get go it has backfires every now and again, and when im cruising at 60 (km/h) or higher it has a shake, and the idle seems to be lower too, any suggestions? it would be much appeciated thanks!

check all the wires to the coil and anything else around the area of the intake tube. could have knocked the coil wire lose or a plug wire when you were installing the cai.

The new intake should not cause any problems, unless there are air leaks or some wire got dislodged. The shake is an indication of misfire, so give the plugs and wires a good looking over. Also check the MAF over for damage. Is the check engine lite on? Why did you disconnect the battery? The CPU adjusts automatically to small changes such as yours, and resetting it does not make problems go away, it just hides them temporarily.

ya the check engine light does come on, but then it'll go out, its weird, i reset it because on the intruciton to the intake it said the computer had to "learn" the new intake, thats a good idea though, ill check my plugs and everything, this is a real pain in the butt...
