"If it's an A4, maybe the shift linkage is off and when you roll it back and forth, it "pops" into place." would the shift linkage cause it to loose spark and not start but still crank over?

Ah. I missed that part. It turns over but does not start. Check your primary and secondary ignition.

ok so I tested the opti signal through the icm harness C and put the digital multimeter on ac and turned the car over and got no signal so im guessing that craby you are very right that it is the opti and so now it is off to get a new one and from what i have heard you can't go wrong with the msd distributor so time to through down the cash and do it right and just cross my fingers and hope!!!!

While you're getting that opti, get a water pump as well. It is always advisable to replace the opti and water pump together.

Good luck and kill Rustanks!!!

Why on earth would you replace a brand new water pump on a new 383
I can see if you had 100,000 miles on it. I just don't understand that principle is all

Touche. I failed to read the part about the "new" 383 stroker. Just replace the Opti, but make sure you seal that water pump well when you put it back on.
