Default 95 z28 restoration and build thread

it was suggested i start a dedicated thread towards my build rather than keeping it in the introduction sections so I will just cross post everything from that section into here and then go from there.

Hi guys,

The names Justin, so yesterday me and my cousin inherited a working z28 for FREE. long story short got it from a close family friend that just wanted to see it get put to good use rather then slowly dying under a tarp in their driveway.
So anyway its a 96 Z28 Convertible but with an automatic transmission . So I have already been looking for T-56's to swap into the car. Also I know this is gonna sound like a broken record but we plan on supercharging it after a rebuild of the engine. Just gonna take it one step at a time. We don't plan to be done this anytime soon so we are defiantly set on restoring it into a sweet summer car for the both of us. and if we had to follow the cheap, fast reliable statement where you can only pick two, we picked fast and reliable, so we are already aware its not going to be cheap haha.

Anyway I only got to take one crappy pic of the car yesterday when it arrived in his back driveway. We are working on it today (technically 3am haha) and are going to drain all the old crappy gas out and put some flesh fluids in and see if we can get it running a little bit better. So I will take some better pics of it tomorrow for you guys so you can get a better idea of the work it will take to be complete.

If anybody has some guidance or wisdom for us during our rebuild we would sure appreciate it!

well sorry for the rant but here is the one crappy pic, more crappy pics to come later!

OK a new problem arises. Turns out there is something wrong with the factory alarm, whenever we attach the battery the hazards seam to flash and all the lights on the dash flash on and off too. So unless anyone has any other Ideas we are just going to start pulling fuses till we can find out which on runs the alarm.
ok nevermind about that last post, it was an aftermarket alarm and I removed it and now all is well, except we still can't get it to start. the battery died again so I have it charging on a 2A trickle charge all night, and then I found out part of the engine harness wasn't getting power so we need to give that a better power source and we should be fine.

we also gave it an oil change from the 2 year old black sludge that it had in it. Next comes new spark plugs and wires and anything that needs replacing in the ignition system.

It should start and be running tomorrow.

here are the new pics as promised.

ok finally found out the problem the positive battery junction box is touchy so I ordered a new one and that should make it start without a hitch. We finally got it to start however its sometimes touchy and doesn't start because of the junction box.

here is a video of me giving it some rev's after its first time awake in over 2 years.

(click the video)

hopefully that worked

So we picked up the seats today. wow oh wow were they in nice condition, came off a 94 z28 with only 71k miles on it!

here are the pics of them from the craigslist ad as I didn't get to take new pics because it was dark out.

he guy I bought these from also has a t-56 and everything else in his parts car that I need to make mine a manual. so it will be worth it in the end.

All I need now is to find some new black carpet and install them!
[QUOTE]looks like I got a line on some black carpet and black seat belts. should be picking them up by the weekend.

under a car in the snow,,,, that brings back memories. lol. looks like you have your project off to a good start. first thing you should invest in is a factory service manual for your year camaro. heres a fair deal on a used set.

its a good idea to have them all and at that price its a steal, even in that rough shape. other set i seen was 100 bucks for the two book edition without the update.
