95 LT1 ECM/PCM fuse blowing.
Hey everyone. I was just hoping that someone could help me with this issue? I have a 95 Camaro Z28 lt1. I'm having trouble with it staying running. It will stay running but when you shut it off wait about 30 secs. and try to start it again the ecm/pcm fuse will blow and the car won't stay running. I tried bigger fuses like 30a it repeats the same as with the 15a fuse and i had also taken it to a local shop. They couldn't even find the problem. I was just wondering if anyone had the same issues with there Z28. If someone can please help me out here even get me in the right direction i would highly appreciate it.
Thanks Jeff
Thanks Jeff
Check the terminals in the plug that goes to your pcm, make sure they are in good condition and non of the wires are comeing out of the terminals or the terminals are not pulled out the backside of the plug or anything like that. Sounds like somewhere you're getting an arc from an wire. If you trace all the wires that go into the pcm, that is to test them wires for short circuits, you should find your problem. It'll be a mess though as you have to test from the start of the wire to the end of the wire.
Sorry it took so long for me to say thanks previous to your message. I had taken it to a shop and they ran new wires for me. I had the car about a week after and it popped when i filled the gas tank. Three mechanics are telling me it's the computer. I know that wouldn't be the problem but i just thought that was weird. What sucks is i don't really have the cash to keep putting into it for electrical problems with school and all. Anyway i aprreciate your help if you have anymore ideas please feel free by telling me i really appreciate it. Thank you
The PCM is just like any other electircal device and can develop a short. Green arrow is correct and that's where you should start to troubleshoot. If you can't find anything a used PCM will only run you between 50-75 buck.
If you can pick up a cheap ECU, it wouldn't hurt to get it and plug it in and test it out to see if that does fix the problem. Or if you know someone with the same type car, you could switch and test that way.
I checked the PCM for bare wires that might be arcing and there were none. I called local junk yards and the cheapest one that i could find is 90. It's the PCM/IGN fuse so could it possibly be something in the ignition doing it.
