Default 94Z Backfire

So I know i've got a backfire in my exhaust every time i let off the gas abruptly at speeds above around 40mph and accelerate again, very slight backfire at lesser speeds sometimes. my question is is the excess fuel exploding there going to eventually tear apart my exhaust or cause other problems? also what would i need to do to fix this issue? I heard in the 4th gens the PCM doesnt close fully when i let off the gas right away allowing excess fuel to go through unburned? is that right? i think he said PCM but im not entirely sure.

backfiring usually indicates an issue with timing

I see in your sig that you have a Borla exhaust. To some degree, you're running with a straight pipe with no muffler out the right side. The bigger the opening of a reducer that you use, or no reducer, the less that goes through your muffler. Without being able to hear what you hear, under those circumstances, I'd have to say it's "normal". You're most likely not hearing a "backfire", you're hearing a "rap".
