Default 94 z starting problem HELP

i have a 94 z 28 that has been giving me a few problems, dont know if they are related or if I have a few issues. First, when starting the car when the engine is cold, the idle seems very low and the exhaust is very smelly. after about 3 minutes of warming it up it levels out to about 1000 rpm and is fine from then on. Second, after driving the car and getting it to normal temp, if I turn the car off and within the next 10 or 15 min. i want to turn it back on the engine turns very slowly and sometimes im able to start it sometimes im not, i have to let it cool down.

whats the volt meter say before trying to start? starter, alternator or battery could be getting tired, clean battery terminals and battery cable connectors with a wire brush. im leaning toward the starter getting old and when it heats up it wont perform. it could be all you need is a heat sheld on the starter. even a good starter can fail if its to hot. the idle at cold temp may be a number of things. have it scanned for trouble codes if you can find a parts store that can do it. 94 is a obd1 with a obd2 plug so most parts stores will not have the proper scanner. scanning for codes can point in the direction of the probelm and save some major bucks.

thanks for the reply. the battery and alternator are new, but the starter i have yet to check. voltage is about 12.83 before starting. I actually had it scanned for codes a few weeks back but it wasnt throwing any. I have also checked and repaired a few vaccum leaks, and has recently had a tune up. What im thinking it might be, but not 100%, is that the car had the throttle body change to a 52mm and had the maf also changed. Would the car need to get tuned after these mods?

yes, it will help quite a bit. also need to make sure the thottle position sensor is reading right. .5 volts at idle. check the idle air control motor/sensor. need a noid light for that. may want to test the evap if it smells of fuel.
