93 LT1 backfiring and missing
My 93 LT1 started backfiring and missing some this morning on my way to work (75 mile commute). It would straighten out and then start up again.
It got to the point of any small incline would make it cow down and start missing and backfiring in overdrive. I could put it in Drive and it would run
better but still miss a little. It quit on me at a stop light and won't start now. Turns over but pops and sputters and eventually backfires. Acts like it
wants to start but won't. Any thoughts?
Thanks.

Could be fuel pump related or a few other things but the most common problem is the Optispark distributer , especially on the early LT1's with the non vented Opti.
I had a '93 and replaced it twice, should have gone with the GM Performance first time but my mechanic talked me into a World products brand.
It failed 10K later and out of warranty, if you buy a new Opti get the GM Performance unit.

I am hoping that's what it is and not timing related. My SES light has been on for a long time now. I have around 280,000 miles on the car and it's a daily driver. Is there any hope with going with a cheaper optispark? I don't have the $400 to spend right now for it and would like to replace the spark plug wires and water pump while I'm in there.

I have an Opti, Water Pump and Spark plugs and plug wires ordered to be here by this weekend. Is there anything else that's not too expensive that I should look at replacing while I've got it torn apart?

factory service manual download here http://www.mediafire.com/?40mfgeoe4ctti i prefer the paper version, the 93 edition is not that costly.
