4L60E Transmission Question
I am currently building a 383 stroker motor that will have around 500hp with 540lbs of torque. My question is this will my stock transmission hold this much power? I will be changing my stall to a 2400-2800. I have heard that this will destroy the transmission the first time I try and race it at the track. My new rpm range will max around 7,500 rpms. Any suggestions would be helpful. I will be posting some pics soon of the build up. I go Monday to look at the motor with all the new parts.
are you strokin that LT1 from your car? or is it a different one? that is pretty low miles to be strokin it out. if it is the trans from the same car, yes it probably will work on the track if you change your shift points, if anything the trans case will go first, those tranny's internals are tough as hell. I would switch to a 700r trans and build that up though. hope that helps.
No I am stokin another 93 LT1 motor so mine will be intact for a resale. I just wanted more power. I have been looking at mad dog transmissions. Have you heard of them?
The stock 4L60e is barely adequate to handle a stock motor, so if you plan to buils a stroker you need to get a built up transmission. Increased torque converter stall speed has little effect on the life of the transmission as long as additional cooling is provided to handle the additional heat that is generated.
hey bjames did you do your rear end yourself, my question is if i buy the posi/zexel 3:73 do you just put it in and make sure its in right? i know there is 2 brackets with 2 bolts in each that must be removed but is there much more than that? or is there alot more too it besides draining and refilling with proper lubricants ect and cover? my car came with a 4:10 and i want more top end.
Yea i would definitely go with a bigger trans. a stock one barely holds up to 300 hp for a length of time. think what 500 hp will do to it. but yea i do a lot of ebay window shopping and i see alot of mad dog but there are also other places on ebay. i would check out monster transmissions on ebay. they seem to have some really strong trans for good prices. so what all does ur motor in the camaro now have done to it?
The only thing that is done to the motor currently in the car is alot of bolt on mods. I have put almost all bolt ons but never NOS or super charger. To answer the other guys question about the rear end. It was already done to the car before I purchased it. I do like the 373 gears alot. They still allow me to cruise the highway without fear of tearing something out.
I have decided upon everyones advice to beef it up. I went with a MAD DOG transmission called the Godfather. It is their top of the line and comes with a 1 year warrenty and will hold over 600hp. I am selling my 4L60E if anyone is interested. It has only 12,000 miles and have the reciept which shows the mileage. It was bought and put in at the Chevy Dealer. If your interested call me at 910-964-7359. Thanks to all for your input.
