Default 383 easy questions

i have an 96Z and am thinking about going 383. i was wondering a few things. i am wanting low end power, what would be a good cam to use? i have seen 292 comp cams but i hear there are clearance issue with that.

alllsssoooo...if i am already planing a serious build like this, would it be much of a gain to go to an LT4? would the hot cam be a good cam for that? If i go with lt4 would the LT1 harness be compatible with the LT4?

also, what other parts would it be good to change? i can think of a few, such as value springs and higher PSI injectors but just wanted some one with a little more know how to put their thoughts in (not that i am not competent i just want to do this thing right)

if you go 383 and dont get the heads done your not gaining much more than cubic inches. A hotcammed 383 would be an extremely under cammed motor. You should be looking into getting the heads either ported or getting a new set of heads. Not lt4 heads from edelbrock either. they are over priced and not very good. Not sure of an exact cam off the shelf to tell you but custom cam is a good way to go. The only real difference i know of with the Lt1 and Lt4 is the 4 bolt main block from the factory and i believe the computers are the same, but you're going to need a tune after all these upgrades so it wont really matter. A 383 needs more cam than a 350 the stroke helps it tolerate a more aggressive cam. Check out places like LLoyd elliot, advance induction, or Total engine airflow. They can all help you with heads and a cam.

i think you can get what you want without stroking it. le2 heads, intake, cam and supporting valvetrain will do wonders. add a few things like headers, exhaust and tune and you will be a happy camper.

so a stroked le2 would be a good starting point? i was looking at AFR heads. i know they are pretty damn good, but they have gone up in price a lot the last few years...

the AFRs will make a badass stroker. but u get to a point with the heads where your goin to want a better intake. the le2 package would be great on a 383 some trickflows from TEA or advanced inductions would make real big power. just gotta talk with the right people. if you call one of those places they'll help you meet ur goals
