Default 3 rd time changing opti

97 z28 lt1

i think the flow in my coolent system is messed up somewhere. this is the 3rd opti i have put in my lt1 in the past 8 months. everytime i pull it it is rusty and my dist. cap has lots of carrosion. that tells me the water pump is seaping coolent through the seap hole onto my dist. and opti. i have had the coolent system flushed as well as pulling the drain plug in block, and flushing it my self. the only thing i can think of is maybe my heater core is not allowing fluid to circulate properly through the system causing the h2o pump to seap fluid. should i pull the heater core and flush it out before i put a new opti and dist. on it? or what do i need to do such that this doesnt happen again.
new stuff concerning coolent system:
h20 pump
thermostat
hoses
radiator
radiator cap
coolent (properly mixed)

You have a vented opti, so just take the cap off and seal it with rtv. You dont see the car leaking coolant anywhere?

If you don't see any tell tale coolant leaks, then I would bet that it isn't leaking. Are you sure that you got a good water pump? Did you seal the water pump to the block properly? Do you see any crystalized coolant on the opti?

What brand opti are you using and where are you getting it. The cheap ebay opti's are not very good for the most part.

i do have a minor coolent leak cause i can smell it sometimes, but its so minor that i cant track it down. the only place i can think of is the seap hole on the h2o pump, because inside the dist and opti there is rust and carrosion. and im very sure i sealed the h2o pump correctly i did it by the books, and have done it by the books the last 3 times. radiator is brand new, hoses and clamps which are all tight so i know its not coming out of there. it has to be the seap hole in the h2o pump. any possible way the heater core has some blockage creating a lack of circulation in the system causing the h2o pump to seap coolent?

you may be leaking coolant from the heat exchange at the bottom of the throttle body or the hoses that lead to it. that would drain onto the opti. agree with sealing the cap with rvt i also added some to the area where the wires (not the plug wires) go into it just in case there was a flaw there.

The blead off hole in the water pump is there for when the seal fails. It should not leak and reseal. I think I understand what you think is happening but remember the pump is more like a fan and it is incapable of creating more then 5 or 6 PSI. Compaired to the pressure that is normally in the system that is nothing. Remember people diconnect heatercores all the time in these car so when the thermostat is close ther is NO flow at all and it does not hurt anything.

That is an expensive problem if you don't get that fixed

right on thanks guys, i'll check the throttle body, and get some rvt. you just seal it all the way the opti and the dist, and the electrical connector that plugs into the opti?

where the cap seals to the opti (big o ring) is one spot and where the wires inter the opti is the other. if you have the vented opti then use some dia electrical grease on the plug connector.
