1994 z28 suggestions
I'd avoid OBD2 cars. You gain another catalytic converter (complicates header install), two O2 sensors (post cats), an EVAP sensor to crowd the passenger side of your intake manifold, and a nagging PCM you can't fiddle with for cheap.
I have a friend with a 95 Z28 (OBD1 computer with an OBD2 connector). He uses a $60 ALDL-USB cable to connect his PCM to a laptop for easy scanning/tuning, that way he can get live data without paying for an expensive scanner.

any spec software needed in laptop to read the data?
what kind of noise and where is it coming from? can you feel any vibrations or such and if so where are you feeling them, seat, shifter, brake peddle, gas peddle, steering wheel? its really hard to say what it is without being there, would be best to have someone that is good with cars have a look at it.
lol, from your decription i would look at the exhaust, brakes and the lower control arms for any damage or lose parts. if its jumping forward slamin and bamin or the likes when you give it gas i would say the rearend is toast.
