Default that wonderful ls piston slap

alright, its not exactly an ls1 or a camaro, but rather my lq4 (6.0) silverado. i know the ls series motors are prone to slap because of hyperuetectic pistons, but my truck has prominant noise from cylinder 3 or 5. oil pressure is excellent, and gets quieter when warm. however, when going down the highway and i give it more throttle to climb hills, it can hear a rattle from the driver side of the engine. it comes and goes, assuming the knock sensor is picking it up and taking out timing. tried some cylinder cleaners with no luck. its also using about a quart of oil every 1500 miles. no smoke on start up, some is probably the rings. has anyone seen the pistons come apart on these engine, when stock? im going to take it easy through the winter, but i dont want to have to do a swap in the middle of january.

I've never seen one "come apart" per say but I'm not saying it can't happen either.

Best bet is to just buy another shortblock and have it ready. They're so cheap at this point, it almost doesn't make sense not to. Then you have a block to build to put in your camaro!! But outside of that, you could try running some thicker viscosity oil, 15w40 rotella t is always good to get you through the winter

im running 10w-40 instead of 5w-30 already. i called around junkyards and checked ebay, cant get a 6.0 with under 150k miles for less than $800. i think i will rebuild it in the spring. i know my driver's side head is messed up already from a broken manifold bolt and can see the passenger side will do the same. gm really needs to learn to use anti-seize on dissimilar metals, and get rid of tty bolts.

ps-its microkid, just didnt check to see who was logged on still
