Whats it take?
I intend on purchasing an F-body soon. I would like to mod it but will not be going all out. Just curious what it takes to beat a vette? I don't know much about vette's except they are outrageously expensive. Are there any models of vette that a F-body can compete with?
Thanks,
Kyle
P.S. -sorry for lack of knowledge, been a Ford boy since I can remeber. I just know these F-bodies kill the mustang GT's

well the older vette's are pretty slow, if they are stock, but before the 70's they were quick , and the early to late 80's they started getting faster again, when i first got my LT1 Z I personally kept up with if not beat plenty of stock C4/C5 vette's with only 3:73 gears Cai Exhuast, and a hooked up auto trans w/ 3400 stall. i dont know if the peron before me did any work to it but when i got my upper custom package the stock heads looked like they had bowl work done.
but if you get the LS1 camaro/firebird (98+)you can beat most all C4 and under vettes stock vs. stock with no mods, and are almost just as fast as the C5 vette's stock.

Hey I got a basically stock 2002 camaro SS with a M6 all I put on her was a K&N ram air kit and I beat a 99 corvette 2 out of 3 runs and the vette had a ram air as well. I'm not to sure if the runs came down to driver (cause I did miss 3rd on the first run [:@]) but those ls1 especially the SS are pretty quick it dosn't take much to out run chevys baby. But if you want a couple of good mods that won't break your bank get the K&N ram air and an exhuast cut out both combined add a good 30hp to the wheels.
if you look up the performance specs on the Z28 and SS you'll see the SS puts out 15 more horses then a Z28. I have raced a Z28 when my car was stock and I pulled him after 2nd gear. Im not spreading a rumor Im spreading a fact
That is a rating from GM and has been proven ON A DYNO to be a bs rating. All LS1 were severly underrated from GM. The extra 15 hp is a marketing gimmick, don't beleive all that you read. I have been dealing with these engines since they came out, trust me, I know what i am talking about. Was the Z/28 you raced an auto or a stick? What year was it?, because the 98-00 cars don't have the LS6 intake like you do. What gear ratio did it have? There are too many varibles to assume that because you beat one your SS is faster than them all. Look man I own an SS and I would take it anyday over a Z because I like the looks of it better, but I know the real world performance facts about both cars and have no dellusions.
The Z I went against was a stock M6 2001 model I'm telling you bro I took him you can blame it on the driver or you could say what you want but I've taken more then one F-Body and a vette and my cars nothing to brag about all I have now is a K&N ram air kit I'm not saying that I totally just blew them away those races were the closes runs I've ever had
So your telling me that the Ram Air effect these cars have serve no point what-so-ever? I've been told that this ram air add additional hp but only past a certin mph? Now you being the LS1 guy that you say you are does this cause an increase or no?
