top speed?
Stock, they top out at right around 158-160 in 5th. Top speed is limited bypower, not revs or a rev limiter.. In 6th they will pull only 130 or so -- it is an extreme overdrive gear for economy and far too tall for the engine's power to pull much past 4000 RPM.
The car is not at its red line at 158-160 in fifth, so as you make mods and add HP the top speed will increase. However, the relationship is exponential (doubling the HP doesn't get you anything close to doubling top speed). Adding 25=35 RWHP (CAI, cat back) gets you barely any noticeably top speed increase, 50 RWHP gets you to 165-167, 100 extra RWHP to nearly 175, and it takes a total of 500 RWHP (200 over stock) to get to about 185 mph top speed.
By the way, the stock car gets real "floaty" around 160 and above. Takes larger rear wings, front air dam and sides skirts to do much more than 160 safely.

I agree Lee, these cars are pretty floaty over 160 when they are all stock. I do know of a twin turbo LT1 car that has been run in the standing mile compition that has seen 200 mph, but he is lowered and has suspsion mods, no big wings though. Here are some vids of the guys car, he works for Speed Inc. and I see his car all the time. It's a legit 9 second street car with AC and a full interior.

I am in a huge fbody club here in the Chicago area, plus we have a couple of major LS1/LT1 shops in the area and I work in the hot rod industry. I am not really friends with that guy but I do know him from the club.
