Synthetic not good in ls1?

I was just reading an old, like from 2003 GMHP mag, and the say that running synthetic, and not petrolium based oild can actually harm the 2nd ring on an ls1? Is this true, cause my car is an slp and had mobil 1 put in since birth.. or has synthetics changed over the last 8 years that its safe now?

dunno, i always use synthetic oil, i believe that is what the recommended is 5-30w fully synthetic?

i run vauxhall (GM) dexos 2 stuff from my local dealer and car is fine and happy :D

i hope not... its all i run

I highly doubt it, LS1's or V8's in general need full synthetic oil, it's mandatory.

Considering LS1 Corvettes came factory-filled with synthetic, I highly doubt it. It is the same engine in Camaros.

i just use reg castrol gtx. synthetics are a waste of money...

DarkKnight 03-25-2011 09:33 AM

really? sythetic is a waste of money? might wanna do more research

i run castrol synthec and have never had a problem

ive been told by mechanics for a long time that you should only run full synthetic in performance vehicles.

not entirely sure of the reason why. I have been told that synthetics are finer and penetrate better, and this can usually be seen when switching from conventional to synthetic - the oil level will drop drastically after first switching as motor components soak up some of the oil

Drastically....huh? I guess that's what happens when you use pistons made from styrofoam!

i tried to spray paint styrofoam once, its visability level dropped drastically, because it melted away haha
