Default SS air induction effectiveness

I'm not a mechanical guy, so I have a question for someone who is. How effective is the ram air induction on an SS Camaro? Does it have any real effect on HP? I'm guessing there is zero effect on torque because the car has to be up to speed to even get any benefit?

The ram air acts as a cold air intake , so there is some benefit even at low speeds; however, the ram part really does not happen until a high speed is reached. It would have worked better if some kind of cowl induction was used, where increased air pressure is acheived at lower speeds. IMO the whole thing is just for looks.

^That pretty much nails it. The SS especially has no ram air affect at all from the hood; your air intake and hood scoop are far off. Even the WS6, ram air acts more like a CAI, just allowing fresh cool air in. If you want something along the lines of a ram air unit, JAAM intake, chrs1313 and the supersucker are all custom made units that have proven track results

I appreciate the responses. At least the hood looks cool!

The hood does work, but not so good at higher speeds since the air deflects away from the scoop due to it's placement so far up the hood. At higher speeds, an SLP CAI works much better, and you will notice the difference at highway speeds!
