ram air setup for 2000ss with 97 front end
Im new to this site, and to Camaros alltogether. I have kinda a unique situation.. I picked up a 2000 ss/slp with 3100 miles on it.. was in a front end accident..blah blah blah.. anyway, the guy i bought it from put a 97 front end on it. Now, my question is, does anyone know if there is a way to get the slp ram air intaked hooked up... maybe a 97 hood will fit up to it.. or should i just try to find a whole new 2000 front clip? any suggestions would be great
thanks

I 2nd the notion. Post pics please. I for one prefer the 93-97 nose over the 98-02 models. It's owners preference of course. As long as you own a Camaro...life is good. I'm guessing you have the 93-97 hood as well since the headlights were different. As long as the ram air is for a LS1 on both body types, I'm guessing it should work.

Yes LOVE my camaro, I also like the 97 style too, which is why i wanna try to get the ram air functional with the 97 front end.. Now my problem is that when i have the factory air box with the baffle under the box, for the where the 2000 ss hood would hook up with the functional ram air hood... my stock 97 hood will not close. The guy notched the rad support so the slp box will sit in the rad support a little, and the hood will close, but there is no baffle .. idk trying to explain to my best, but does not sound to good... HOW CAN I POST PIX!!!??

Do the SLP CAI -- I assume it will fit under there -- take off the lid and filter take another pic.
Forget the hood Ram Air -- not as good.
That looks pretty hacked up -- you might be SOL, without a bunch of changes...

That's what alot of '93-'97 people who have run the OTR-style intakes have done - notch the upper radiator support to get it to fit. The intake otherwise won't fit under the pre-'98 hood. Most that I've seen however got more room by laying the radiator back/down so the notch isn't as big.
As for yours, I'd be worried about how much of a seal on the filter that setup is getting, as it looks like the only thing holding the lid down is the hood. It also looks like the previous owner notched the top of the radiator structure itself - and covered the cuts with duct tape. I'd be worried about how that one will hold together overall.

Oh man Ironically I just posted a thread seeing if putting a 93-97 front end on an Ls1 car was possible because I had never seen someone do it. On Ls1Tech someone said they would try doing this using the Lt1s Elbow intake with a Moroso CAI so it would fit under the pre 98 hood. I really hope you get everything situated. I would love to see this completed.

Yeah the rad is actually notched, but it was all soldered brazed, whatever , and he has heat tape one it, I have driven it around running normal operating temp and all holds well, drives great, but, yeah i have to figure out how to get the lid down , i dont want it hacked up, i want this done right, im sort or **** about things.. i bought the car for 7 grand, and the guy gave me $17000 in reciepts.. he had everything professionaly done to fix the car... **** u can eat off anything on or under the car.. so hacking anything apart just wont work. I have all Buffalo winter to get everything done right., so that means i got till June lol LIBERTYFORALL.. The SLP CAI u think is better than having the ram air ? Would i get about the same amount of power as the ram air setup?
