Default RE: Question about LS1 and LT1

i think we got a mixture of u not typing it right and me not reading it right..... 275hp net? no, the net power would be change in power as im taking it.

but a stock PI mustang is 260hp.
the PI swap goes from 225 to about 275, which is a 50hp gain. this is because the nPI parts are absolute crap and an embarassment to autotech, and because the swap includes the intake manifold, heads, and cams. personally i would go with a bigger set of cams during the swap for even more power but thats just me.

my mustang with full boltons made 260rwhp on a mustang dyno, ive seen them make 280 on dynojets, again, the PI swapped car should make 10-15rwhp more than the stock PI car. so were talking 270rwhp on a mustang dyno. so were talking 190rwhp stock, after pi swap and boltons, 270, about an 80rwhp gain overall. only about a 40rwhp gain over a stock pi car. along with a high street stall and some suspension mods stock to mildly modified LT1's should have a rough time with him. im always afraid i sound like a fanboy for ls1 in these threads, but after i wrecked my stang I actually was going to build a turbo fox 5.0, but did some extensive looking into chevy and came close to buying a 97 black trans am. but i had too much track and street experience with the lt1 and ls1 and decided to hold out for an ls1.

yeah let me rephrase that. "He would have more than 275hp? a 60 horsepowr gain?"

But i see what your saying. So the pre-99 Mustangs are slow as ***** unless you do a PI swap?

Stickies suck, what's better is a searchable database with primary keys based on car model, etc., but I don't think this site's engine supports such a thing.

Wikipedia's model isn't too bad, but doesn't have the breadth...

215hp for the 96-98 mustangs was extremely overrated. I dynod the car before I did any mods, 189rwhp. With the mods I have now I can beat a PI 99+ mustang but rarely beat a LT1. The difference between the 96-98 mustangs and the 99+ were the PI components (heads, cams, intake manifold). Alot of the inexpensive mods done to mustangs dont net alot of HP at all. That is why it frustrates me so much. If I bought a Procharger and ran 10psi , I might cross the 400rwhp mark, probably not though. With the LS1 that is easily achievable with inexpensive modifiations.

Im not saying that N/A mustangs cant ever beat a LT1, Ive done it a few times, but for the most part i can keep up off the launch and about 3 quarters of the way through the LT1 begins to pull ahead. Just more high end power than the mustangs.

Spectar, I understand what your saying. But if you ask anyone who is done this swap to 96-98 mustang the gains are no where near 80 rwhp. The PI heads are only good for about 12hp. The gains really come from the PI Cams and Intake Manifold. Read this forum's stickies on the subject.

yes, the 96-98 models had the 4.6 nPI and were the slowest v8 mustangs ever built, or at least thats what the teenagers who have never ridden in a 1st gen 289 believe anyways (i have my opinions..... [&:])

but they are still modular motors so the parts are interchangable with with newer GT's until 04

Yeah, the only reason for me purchasing this Mustang instead of a Trans Am or Camaro LS1 was because of the Woodward Dream Cruise Edition aspect of my car. They only made 58 of these in 1997 and then auctioned them off at the Woodward Dream Cruise, from what ive heard they sold out on the first day and many went for over the double the retail of a new mustang at the time.

They came equipped with Borla Side Exhaust, Hood Pins, Premium Leather Seats (4 more layers of padding) performance goodyear tires, white painted Cobra Rims, Blue Racing stripes, etc... I liked the fact that these modifications were all done in the factory. But even then, and after Ive done several suspension mods, PI swap, 4.10 gear swap, etc... The car still cant wake up. I just dont think N/A Mustangs NPI or PI will ever be powerful enough for me.

The LS1's are a different story. My buddy bought a 02 Trans Am Pace Car Edition WS6 that throws me back in the seat everytime he touches the gas. I love the Mustang Styling, but they arent adequate for me.
