for all guys and girls, I have this one question, I have a 6 speed LS1. And when I drive and step on the accelerator I hear this funky noise comming form underneath the hood. I think It might be the belt tensioner but, Im not really sure..The noise is really loud when I shift at low rmp,s and then step on the accelerator.Its also reallyloud whenim on the freeway and I put it to 6th. Any other suggestions that would help me??? pleaseeeeeee THANK YOUUUU,,

 

Does the noise get louder the more rpms you are pulling. It could be a bad pulley in your serpentine system. If it is more or a clunk it could be an exhaust pipe (if its aftermarket) that is loose an hitting something. If it is a ticking sound it probably is a belt or pulley and HOPEFULLY not a valve ticking or engine knock. I would pop your hood and look at your belts for wear if you see a crack or tear in it then voila there is your problem. Hope this helps.

 

big bird thanks for the respond,,,,yes it gets louder at higher rpms,,, also when I skip ship form any gear 1st/3rd 2nd/4th exe,, I had many new parts installed after 70k the car has 74 right now,, new battery,waterpump,cats,pcv valve, o2sensor,tuneup done at 72k with new ignition coils,and I also had both belts replaced at about 71k,,, everything seemed to work fine till about a week ago,,the cats make a little noise but its probably because they have an extra metalshield for protection from heat,I think if a would cut them out if would help,,, but that other noise thats comming from the engine is more important,,,so do you think it can be the pulley or the more serious valve or engine ticking at 74k???? and how much do you think it would cost to repair??

 

Is it losing power when you hit the accelerator? If so, i had the same problem in my 02 and it turned out to be a cylinder backfiring. Although it also sounds like a belt. If not, it may be a fan problem which i had in my truck.

another thing that you might check is the ac compressor, this might be a long shot for your problem, but its what is happening on my 2001 Z28. Its loud and annoying, and gets louder as you increase in rpms

 

How is your belt-tensioner?
