How on earth do your parents just hand you a 98-02 SS as a first car? My dad wouldnt let me get a 97 Z28 that was only about $1000 more than my V6 of the same year at a dealership, btw I paid for ALL of my car, no parental help. Im 18 now and work 20-30 hours a week at Outback Steakhouse and have 17 cred hours a semester. While one of my buddies has a 2004 Z06, a 69 Camaro with a 396, and a 2005 Z71. The way I see it, if something is handed to you then you are more likely to let it go to hell in a hand basket just because you have nothing invested in it.

Greencam97> I know a lot of people like that. And almost all of them have trashed their vehicles within the first two years of owning them. The few that have kept them in good running condition though were the ones that did a lot of stuff on their own and paid for stuff on their own. Their parents were just nice to help them out with a major buy.

Man do I feel out of place on this thread... I'm 68.... My 67 RS/SS convertible has been in the family (father-in-law) since new (Jan. 1967), has been apart for major reconstruction the past 25 years and is no longer just a pile of parts, hope to get it running again next year. I try to work on it a little every day and am doing all the mechanicals and body/paint myself. Most of the work has been done this past year... New dash top, quarters, frame off, floors, suspension, engine rebuild... It'll be great to get in back on the road, my father-in-law is 90, hope to be able to take him a ride when it's done...Phil (hipirn)

I am 19 and own a 1997 SS. Its my second Camaro. I did own a 1990 IROC. My cousin was sellin his SS and I couldnt let it leave the family. Born and raised on Camaros. My cousin also has a 1996 SS and recently sold his 67 SS. My Insurance is about 650 a year for full coverage. Now I am saving up for the top of line 5th generation!!
