Default HELP with my STALL CONVERTER

i have a 98 z 28 camaro ... automatic 4L60e . I took my car to a shop and got installed a 2500 stall and a transgo shift kit. I dont know what name or manufacturer of the stall. Anyways, i try to power brake to 2500 but the tires start spinning at 1800! is this normal?? I heard that i need a tune.. i heard that i gotta break it in.. i have drove it over 200 miles now and still not stalling to 2500. Anyone with any advice would help a lot.. thanks

do a google search for how a TC works, read up on it as much as you can. If you still don't find an answer PM me.

It is not stall speed as in MPH, but stall RPM. Stall RPM depends on the power of the engine and the brake's ability to keep the wheels from turning. If the brakes are not strong enough, you will never get to the stall RPM. Assuming you can keep the rear wheels from turning, apply throttle to the engine until it no longer gains RPM. That is your stall RPM (speed). Using the same converter, a stronger engine will stall at higher RPM than a weaker one. A really strong engine can actually blow the converter up and then you have infinite stall RPM, or as much as the engine can rev to before blowing itself up. lol

Thats the reason boosted guys stall higher as the car increases boost. a 2500 is a very mild stall to start with. What did you pay and you need to find out what brand it is.

Pete, i dont think anyone suggested it was a mph speed.

he was powerbraking and the wheels overcame the brakes at 1800rpm. how do they rate the stall speed then? there must be some formula or something.

To detrmine the stall speed, the wheels must not be allowed to turn. If the wheels turn it just means that the engine power is more than the brakes can handle, and has nothing to do with stall speed. Stall speed is arrived when the engine cannot be forced to rev any higher with the drive train locked.

Pete nailed it. If you need to know more, these articles go into more detail...

Thanks pete. just seemed odd to me that the TC was providing enough force to overcome brakes AND pavement. But i guess so
