Default Gas mileage question

I bought my Camaro about two months ago. It runs good and I'm not really having any problems with it but....... my gas mileage is crap. I know performance and gas mileage shouldn't be in the same sentence but it is today. Its getting about 200 mpg per tank around 13ish a gallon. I just wondering what evey one else is getting? My car has, stock motor,SLP lid, LT headers,Y pipe no cat and a borla can,160 TS,programmed with a diablo sport hand held. I have to do some more digging but thought id ask the question here.

It is not wrong to say mileage and performance in the same sentence. I am a former GM tech and former race car builder, I check the mileage on my car every tank because that will be the first indicator something is wrong.

We will need some more information.

If you are talking a 3800/ 5-speed and stock gears highway miles you have a serious problem. You should be 30 ish

If you are talking high miles LT1 automatic running around in the city at 160 degs temp and a richer then factory tune you are about right. The 160 thermostat is killing you. You could also have some tired o2 sensors but I would not expect more then 15 mpg in the city with that setup. The 4th gen is a heavy car and it takes a lot of energy to get it going.

He's got an '01 SS LS1 like mine. Sounds like a bad tune job, that's horrible mileage unless maybe you have your foot in it all the time and drive mostly city.

Yeah I'm not really understanding why he put a 160 stat in. I've read something a few years ago but dont remember. Yeah...its a stock car with headers/open exhaust. I'm going to see what this Diablo tuner is doing

This little tuner is confusing to me. I looked at it yesterday but didnt change things because im sure what it does. The booklet is very vague or I'm a tard, either way i need to learn how to work it or pay to have it tuned.

For sure,I've seen the same thing with custom Harleys over the years, a good tuner makes a world of difference. The canned tunes are a crapshoot at best. That's why my car will be getting the cam and head upgrade and tune done here and he will spec the cam. https://www.facebook.com/search/top/...%20engineering

Both '00 & '02 SS's, I've own, both SLP modded, 6-qpd, and with 17 miles of interstate on a 22 mile one-way trip to work, heavy foot =19 MPG, otherwise, conservatively(?), 22-23 MPG.

New air filter, tires with 36 PSIG, and good grade of fuel.
