Few questions about buying a Camaro.
Hey guys,
I just joined CF and have a few questions. I'm about 3 months, worth of savings, away from being able to afford a 4th gen Z28/SS Camaro. I'm wondering the things I should look out for when buying a used Camaro. I know enough about cars to know general issues to watch for such as engine sludge, transmission issues, etc. but I'm wondering if there are any specific issues I should be on the lookout for when shopping for a used Camaro. Thanks!

Every LS1 I have ever listened to has some tapping noise and it's usually not a problem.
Check both driver and passenger windows and seals. The doors and windows are the weakest links. Very poorly designed.

as long as it has some good service history, and general car maitainance its usually going to be better. Just check all the general things over, seat wear also. Also listen out for excessive diff whine when you go for a drive, this diff could be going as some were pressed in too tight by GM hence the greater likely hood to brake, especially on the M6 as they kill the diff through 1st gear. Although not epensive to replace its not good if you have only just bought the car.
Have a drive check gears work in maual and are relativly smooth is ( the boxes feel lke its from a tractor) and if its an A4 manually select all gears, make sure it works, and check it doesnt slip between changes too much.
let us know how you go on!

Yeah i was planning on buying a stock one. I don't want to buy someone elses problems. I found a 02 SS M6 with 52k miles on it, and has been solely owned by a elderly gentlemen. I would love to buy this car but i'm just a bit short on the cash and really would not like to have a car payment.
The excessive rear noise many of you have mentioned, what is it due to? Does it have something to do with the diff??

Since it is a manual play with the clutch a bit & feel & listen for problems as well as each gear including reverse. As mentioned take a good listen for diff issues. Check out the tires for unusual wear. Get the car up off the ground & thoroughly investigate for leaks as well as under the hood (check everything).
Check out all of the general stuff like brakes/shocks/body damage-repairs & fluids too.
