so from everything ive heard, the 98 - 02 camaros are every bit as fast stock, as the new 05-06 GTOs. is this right... im confused becasue the GTOs, though they weigha few hundred pounds more, also have an 80 HP lead on the camaros, so why arnt they faster. am i missing something here?

 

Gearing? Driving? Parasitic Loss?

 

True the 6.0 L GTO's have a little more horse (real world numbers are about a 50 or so RWHP differance). But they are heavier, have an IRS rear, that robs some power and have different gearing, and have a torque managment program in the ECU that makes them a *****. GTO's also have a hard time getting traction, so form a dig the are at a bit of a disadvantage.

 

I used to have an 04 GTO...with the LS1, not the LS2...I raced a 98 Z28...it was modified...not sure exactly what, but it was pretty fast...I had a programmer and CAI...When we took off I realized I left the traction control on...I couldn't push the gas pedal down but 3/4 way...anywho...he beat me by half a car up to about 60mph...and that's with me not being able to push the gas pedal all the way down or run the rpms all the way up...so I would say the GTO is faster stock...but a camaro with a few small mods can be just as fast...and by the way, the LS2 GTO is ALOT faster than the LS1...I used to sell Pontiacs and the LS2 amazed me compared to my LS1 GTO...my .02

 

All I know is that I have only seen one GTO run faster than mid 12.'s and he was spraying a 200 shot at it. A mid 12 LS1 f body is like a belly button...everyone has one. BTW one of my very good friends has an LS2 GTO and I absolutly slay that car anytime we run. In stock form an LS2 GTO is a low 13 car, for reasons I stated above. They are a drivers race for an LS1.

 

I wasn't trying to compare your 11 second car to a stock 05-06 GTO(of course you would slay him)...you have alot of mods...I was talking about stock to stock Camaro vs GTO...I believe the GTO would be faster, especially with the LS2 compared to what I saw when I raced my GTO vs a Camaro...the LS1 GTO ran low to mid 13's stock...according to who was driving and m6 vs a4....and the ls2 GTO ran very high 12's to low 13's stock(again, driver/tranny)...and with one or two mods, could make low to mid 12's on either one(ls1 or ls2)...

 

I raced a 2004 GTO stock vs. stockin the 1/4 mile and beat it by 0.509 second.
