Guys have pushed stock LS1 bottoms up to 600 horses but it is kind of pushing it. I would recomend a stand alone nitrous system for extra safty and a bigger shot and rods and pistons with good fasteners. Your stock crank should be fine. A good tune is a must and you will need bigger injectors. A good head cam package and a 200 shot with the stand alone system will get you past the 600 range. However your going to need a 12 bolt or 9 inch rear and if you are running a auto your going to need a swap or built one.

For the cost of a LS7 or LS3 you could build one hell of a LS1. A good head/cam package with forged rods and pistons should set you into the 440-480 wheel range with no problem with supporting mods of course (headers, intake, Y-pipe, etc.)

a solid head/cam package will get u in the mid 500s easily. maybe a bit of a stroke after that if ur looking for 600 NA. the LS block can be stroked to crazy displacements. if 600bhp is ur goal overall i say just cam it and spray it and call it a day
