Cam info/suggestions for my 98 ss
Ive had my 98 ss now for about 8 months and that little bug is coming out wanting more performance out of the car but mainly wanting the muscle car sound. Im planning on piling up parts and doing everything at once. Im going to do full exaust when the cam swap happens. my biggest thing is selecting the right cam. I know that i am going to have to swap the valve springs and luckily my car is a M6 so a stall is not going to be a problem. I have looked at the ls hotcam along with ms3's and 4's. I still drive the car everyday so im looking for something that will make the car thump when ideling, but still be driveable everyday. any thoughts would be appreciated.

by definition a lumpy big cam will NOT be best for a daily driver, ie you have exteem overlap and lumpy idle, it will sound good but your power will be all at the top end of the revs
i've got the tsp 228R cam on a 112 lsa, you can defo tell its got a cam compared to stock, but with the 'correct' tuning the idle lope isn't as premounced as it runs pretty smooth. Its old tech, but something with a similar duration upto about 230 @ 0.050" lift and 112 or 114 lsa will be a decent DD. But that is then down to personal oppinion. A 112 lsa will provide more lumpy idle than 114 ...but it wil be mariginal
My 228 comes alive after about 3500, i ran it with a stock stall for a year and was fine driving about with convertor locked at 1500-2000 rpm on highway. Again, you need a really good tune for it not to buck, surge and self drive.
Can you have a go in a friends car if they have a cam....

224R or 228R will be perfect for you, or a Torquer V2. Those three are great mild cams that give big sound, very good performance gains for no huge loss in drivability. They also do not require as much, if any supporting engine mods
