Default burning smell after acceleration

I recently bought a 99 Camaro and am now noticing a burning smell after acceleration. The smell is stronger if I accelerate harder. I do have a K&N air filter, i'm not sure if that affects anything. Any ideas on what it could be?

Try to locate the source after a good burnout - Then post back.

I've already tried finding the source.. As stated there are no visual leaks, and i can't really tell exactly where the smoke is coming from.. i'm sure someone has had this problem before... both f bodies i've ever owned have done it and never figured it out..

Fortunately my car does not smoke yet, however the smell is more and more noticeable, so i'm assuming it will smoke soon. The burning smell could be oil but my oil isn't low and i don't have any leaks either. How long has your firebird been smoking? How did it start or did it just start at a random time?

How many miles do you have on the car? My friend owns a mazda mx3 and he had the same problem and he could smell oil burning and smoke would shoot out his exhaust but never did the oil get low untill a couple more weeks when he realized that it was burning oil. So it could be that your engine is just starting to burn oil. I doubt it would if it has low miles but if you take a lot of trips you might have that problem.

156k miles

no smoke from exhaust at all..
this motor has been BABIED its whole life..

I had a 95 firebird 3.4 and it smelled like this for about a month, then started smoking, and it actually got pretty bad... on lunch breaks people would be looking out at it and laughing, cuz it would smoke for about 20 mins after being shut off.. now I've got a 97 camaro 3.8II and it is smelling the same, and now barely starting to smoke (Only after HARD acceleration does it smoke..)
