Default Air pump?

I have a 1999 z-28, as if the name didnt give that away. lol Anyways while under the hood checking things and wigglin wires (you know a typical sun. afternoon) I noticed that in the underhood fuse panel the 25 amp fuse labled Air Pump was blown. So when I changed the fuse and started the car I heard a weird squeeling/whistling sound for a few seconds then it stopped. After I shut off the car I checked the fuse and it was blown again. Dose anyone know what the air pump is? Is it something I should worry about?

the air pump, (on my 99) is just under where the headlight is on the drivers side, there should be a big (1.5 inch diameter) hose that comes up by the fuse boxes and round the back of the engine where it T's into two. These then go into one way valves and into the exhaust headers. The air pump is for emission and helps warm the cats or something at low rpm and idle and cold starts. Itr may be siezed up and that why it blows the fuse? Does your car run fine and pass emissions? If so i wouldnt worry , most people delete them when the get long tubes

I thought it had something to do with emmissions. But yeah it runs great and we don't have emmissions testing here in S.C.. I'll have to take a peek at it and see whats up. Thanks for the help
