99 auto trans problem
I am a fairly new owner of a 99 z28 with an auto trans. Since i got it and according to the owner since he owned it, the transmission has been acting up. Its nothing too serious but it seems it doesnt want to shift under hard acceleration. under normal driving the problem is nearly invisible but i took it to the local aamco and they said it required a complete 2000 dollar rebuild. i cant believe that such a minor problem needs a complete rebuild especially with only 48000 miles and no modifications! Please anyone who has had the same problem or knows anything about please HELP!!!

You need to be a little more clear about "it doesnt want to shift under hard acceleration".
Are you saying that with the gas pedal to the floor, it doesn't shift out of first gear?

well actually under normal acceleration when its trying to shift into third it revs up like its in neutral or like its not catching but thats nearly invisible and im the only one who really notices it..... the bad problem is when i put the gas to the floor when im going say 60 and it redlines and makes a wierd nasty scraping noise but refuses to shift unless i let off the gas.... im sorry if im not quite descriptive enough as you can see im a newbie ha

What he said was it's losing internal pressure, meaning he thinks the seals inside the trans are leaking and you're losing pressure in critical areas. That is a distinct possibility. And, even though you only have 48k miles, everything is still over 11 years old. When it comes to transmission and engine rubber seals, age and inactivity can make them leak before mileage takes a toll on them.

First off I dont know about there but I have lived in VA Beach and now in the Tacoma area and AAMCO is a rip off. Go to your local autopart store that has a commercial department and ask them who they would trust to look at and repair your tranny. $2000 is pretty average for a new 4L60E tranny with labor a little more. You can get used from a yard for around 300-500 but you never know what you are going to get with that. If you have to replace the internal seals then you might as well replace the clutches and band while you are in there since all that has to come out to replace the seals anyway.
