98 up ls1 problems??
Hi guys im looking into buying a 98 or up camaro z28 or ss 6 speed. I have decided that i want a ls1 after driving the lt1 and wasnt really impressed. I know that the lt1 are common for the opti spark going bad and was just wondering if there is any common problems with the ls1. The one's that im looking at have over 100k on them and im just wondering how reliable these motors are with that many miles on them? Also i want your guys input on which one of these you would buy? There is a 2001 z28 with 118k that is stock for 6500 obo or a 2002 ss with intake, throttle body, bigger mass air sensor, y pipe, traction bars, programmer with 131k on it for 8500 firm cash sale only. So i kind of like the 2002 but he says the rear end has a whine to it but its done that for 6 years i guess. So do you guys think i should buy that or buy the stock 2001 and take the $2000 and upgrade it with aftermarket heads and cam or something like that? Let me know what you guys think about all this. Thanks!!

I bought my 1998 SS with 120k on the clock. No problems yet. But the last owner changed the passenger side axle for whatever reason. I had to do alot of maintenance like shocks and fuel filter and a torn trans mount, brakes....so nothing major. All depends how they drove the car.

But if you guys hear of any good deals on one please let me know cause im searching everywhere's and im not having good look. Needs to be a 6 speed. Would be happy with a firebird too but they are priced crazy high for a ls1 6 speed.

So just wondering if the t56 6 speed tranny's had any problems kicking out of reverse? The guy told me that the 01 does that once in a great while and says that its real common and just the shift fork? you guys heard of this? I know that my brother had a mustang that did that because of the shift fork but just trying to make sure that its not a more serious issue.

where are u located vtmaro? I have seen a cpl z28 6 speeds around here in buffalo going between 6500-8000... real nice z28 here going for 8 with t tops, 6 speed, cowl hood cloth interior with 80000 miles on it.. i just picked my 2000 ss up in nj with 3500 miles.. yes 3500 on it for 7500... there is a story that goes with the car, but , if u look, u can find them, and it was deff worth the 16 hour road trip
