02 Z28 with starting hesitation
I have an 02 Z28 with only 44k on it, never any engine swaps. The car is an auto LS1 and has the SLP cold air box and SLP LM1 exhaust. When I start the car sometimes it hesitates a little and then starts, other times it will be fine. Once it starts it runs well for the most part. Can anyone tell me what this could be. I've been told a possible clogged fuel filter or the pump going bad. It seems to me like it could possibly be an egr valve not opening all the way or is clogged. Does any of this sound right or could there be another potential issue. The plugs havent been changed that I know of or at least I have not done it. I run 93 octane in it and full synthetic. Could it be bad or no spark from either the plugs needing replaced or the ignition wires or a starter going bad. COuld this potentially be that the engine is not getting enough compression at start up? The car also has a tendency to drop and spike RPM's consecutively every once in a while if I hold it steady at around 60 or 65 mph. Lastly I keep hearing a rattling noise coming from the front drivers side but that does not always happen either but its driving me nuts. I intend on racing this thing down the track next year and i wanna get everything in good shape before i do, so I don't break things easily.

with not codes i would change fuel filter plugs and if plug wires are lookin old them as well. be a good idea to do a fuel pressure test on it. if car is new to you it would be good to change all fluids and filters.

I have the fuel filter I just need the time and a garage to do it in, the air filter was changed with the intake. The oil has been changed a few times since I got it, I haven't changed the tranny fluid so that might be a good idea. It isnt throwing any codes and I have had it on a tester a couple of times. The plugs and wires might be a good idea. The fuel pressure test might not be a bad idea either. do you think it could have anything to do with the egr?

I would start with the basics first. A good solid tune up. It will be hard to pinpoint the problem when everything under the hood hasnt been changed. Well it sounds that way. You could use one anyway. Then if the problem still there then you can run less test and dig a little deeper. But sounds like a good tune up will solve your problem.
