Default Super 44 vs. Super 40

What's the difference and which is better?

Going to get a couple, which should I go for?

Anything else to consider? Magnaflows any good?

This is for a '79 Z28 with a 350. I've got headers, and I don't need any catalytic converter BS. Just the headers, pipes, and mufflers. Will be on 2 1/2 inch pipes.

I think my engine has been worked on, I don't know. Looks like aftermarket heads, maybe a mild cam, and a K&N intake, maybe a shift kit too, I don't know. Will this make a diff? The exhaust I have now is butchered - straight back from the headers with I think Thrush Turbos. Sucks *** and hangs low.

Thanks.

I have Super 40's on my 70 427 BB, they are 1 inch thicker with a 5 inch thick case, super 44's have a 4 inch case for better ground clearance, go with the 44's, every little bit of clearance helps, they both sound great though imho.

Okay, cool, thanks.

As for sound - they sound about the same?

Flowmaster claims the 40's are a little deeper in sound, maybe but not a very noticeable difference, they both have that flowmaster sound which I like, the flowmaster muffler is just built very well for longevity with no steel wool or fiberglass to compress inside and sounds consistent for a long time, you will be happy with the 44's

Okay, thanks.

I think I'll pick up a couple 44s then.

I know this is a little old now, but I just got a magnaflow on my maro and it sounds great. I did not like the flowmaster sound over the magnaflow sound. I have a v6 though and not a v8. Flows are normally deeper sounding so probably sound good with a v8. Flows though don't sound all that great at higher rpms while magnaflows sound good all the time imo. Only time you can't hear the muffler is when ideling, which I like, because I don't want to pull up to a drive through and not hear anything. Flowmasters you hear ALL the time.

Most people don't care and even like that you can hear a flowmaster all the time, but I just liked the magnaflow better even though most of my friends told me to go with a flowmaster and I love the magnaflow
