Well, i just ordered my exhaust system. Hooker shorttys with a straight pipes then X-Pipe then out.. Question is, Would it be easier to take the engine OUT to install the headers OR can i just put them on As is?? It looks pretty tight as is... If i have to take my engine out im going to get some new Pistons/rings and a new Cam to put in since it's already pulled. Miswell do the Whole shabang huh??? Get back to me asap. thanks

i dont think it matters what kind of car you have, a header install will be easier with the engine in the car.

I've heard is much harder on LT1s but me and a few buddies did mine in around 7 hours. I imagine it would take a while to get the motor out, especially on an LS1 since the easiest way it to bring the k-member and front end out with it from beneath

Well, if you have to take it out anyway, you might as well put them on while it's out. I had to jack my engine up 3" anyway just to get the headers in when the motor was still in. If it's out anyway, just do it then, you'd be a moron not to.

but he doesnt have to take it out anyway, the only reason he is taking it out is to swap headers. But if he has to take it out for the headers hes gona do a cam swap.

oops, you're right, I misread that, I thought that he said that he had to take it out to put new rings on. Ya, leave it in...sorry about that.[:@] You may not even have to jack the motor up since you got the shorties.

thanks for you're replys. the Car is a 1986 Iroc-z with a 350FI.. thats great news, i wasn't looking forward in taking out the engine. but yeah i ment if i had to , to get the heads on i miswell refresh it with some new pistons/rings and a cam swap. Never did a new exhaust job but seen one done. But a little off topic, Is it rare for a 350in a 3rd gen to have a manel tranny? if so i think my car is very uniqe because it has a 5speed tranny :
: D what are some other good mods for these small block 350 chev motors?? (Fuel injected)
