The car is 95 z28. I was wondering if they're worth the $50 they're being sold for on ebay. Are they beneficial to the car's performance at all? If so, how? Any information on these cold air intakes would be highly appreciated...
thanks

Cold air has more air molecules than warm air. The cooler the air going in, the more time it has to expand and use itself up. Warm air going into something hot already just turns into more hot air. It does help in power.

the only time it really helps out in a significant manner is when the stock intake piping is horribly restrictive. you may get an honest HP or two from an already decent system, but don't expect too much more than that.
the plus side is that you have a rewashable filter, and less clutter in the engine bay. some people like the sound of an exposed filter more than the sound of the stock intake system. personally, a CAI is a nice addition to a car if you have a crummy looking intake tract from the factory, or you could really benifit from losing the restriction.
for a big american V8, i think i'd prefer a nice carb-mounted air cleaner to a CAI. if i have a tuned port, i'd possibly go with something like a dual snorkel setup, but i wouldn't stress the point.

If you are thinking about getting a CAI off of ebay. get the 3 piece set that replaces all of the stock intake with the aluminum tubing. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/94-95...spagenameZWDVW

Makes a difference if you car needs one, expecially if the intake air passage is restricted. You have to make sure the air passage is smooth and urestricted and that the airintake is really outside of the engine compartment.

A cold air intake is definitly a good modification to do to your car. Regardless what kind of factory setup is in a vehicle, 9/10 times it can be improved. Its cost effective and definitly adds a little bit of " cool factor " to things....... unless you're a ricer who thinks it's going to now equip your Honda Civiccomplete with CAI and Plugwiresto outrun a corvette..........
