anyone no what kind of gains would get from gutting the cat on a 96 3800? looking to get alil performance as im getting tired of getting beat from imports

 

Almost nothing, maybe 1 hp or 2. Gutting a cat will disrupt the air flow and negate any gains, if you were to remove and replace it with a peice of pipe you might get a couple of hp but thats really it.

 

ok adding on to his... the one im getting has a new exhaust with gutted cat.... u saying it would just plain be better to get an offraod pipe? i knew gutting it wouldnt really add power but make it for less air restriction.... but do u think it would be better to just get an O/R Y or something??? talk to me JD

 

What year is the car and what motor? Yes an ORY is going to flow better but what are the other mods?

 

ok thank you i was just trying to think of any cheap solutions for power cant afford v8 now because of college heard something bout a type 90 supercharger from a gtp but dont no bout clearance...think im stuck with it for now.......by the way awesome car

 

could either of you suggest any cheap mods around 5-600? please any help greatly appreciated.

i think ill just try and save up till i get the 3000 forc-fed-fabrications wants for there turbo there guranting some pretty amazing ouput from a v6.

 

JD.... mine would be an 88 5.7 TPI.... headers... big cam.. flowmasters... and some other junk... ill know all when i get it... i had him make a list...
