I bought a brand new Magnaflow catback dual exhaust for my 1994 camaro v6 7 days ago and when i got it it sounded beastly. If you didn't know cars you would have thought it was a v8.

However about i'd say 3 days ago, 4 days after buying it, i started to notice that it wasn't as loud. At idle and acceleration it just was quieter. I mean it still has the deep sound but not near as loud as when i got it. Is this normal for exhausts because if so im incredibly disapointed. If it isn't then i'm definitely going to have to go get it checked out by the place that installed it. I loved that sound and i didn't pay 450 for it to just mellow out lol.

Example: I picked up my friend last night and he said that he used to be able to hear me coming up the hill but he can't anymore so i know its not just me

Also the weathers cold, like 20-30 with snow right not if that matters? it was the same type of weather when i bought it. I also had them fix my panhard bars about 2 days after because they saw mine were broken when they installed the exhaust if that matters either haha.

 

new mufflers and exhaust will change tone as carbon builds up and so say. "breaks in"

my cherry bombs sounded tinny and my headers sounded tinny and my new duels sounded tinny till i put some miles on it. i got a good 100 on them now and there almost getting louder/quieter. so its just going though phases till it becomes the normal. yours will do this too. my welded exhaust right now clings and creeks right now from the hot cold contraction as the metal kinda starts tempering out. its just funny siting i there and hearing a clink ping sounds randomly when its off and or cooling down

 

so this is just temporary and will eventually go back the way it was?

 

do u have a cat on the system if so how old is it? exhaust will get a little louder as it ages. should not get quiter.

 

Which Magnaflow muffler came with the system? If it's the one that has the perforated pipe with steel and fiberglass packing inside the can, then I spose it could get a little quieter as that packing settles in and around the pipe. But those types of mufflers (glasspacks) tend to get louder over time. If it's a chambered muffler, it isn't going to change it's tune for the quieter.

 

don't know about the sixers but with LT's and the Magnaflow you can hear my LT1 from quite a distance

 

exhaust systems should never get quieter. the only times ive heard them get queiter was when the cat was breaking up and was starting to lodge sideways. there is usually a significant power loss with that as well. it could be just your perception. i know my blazer's exhaust changes sometimes, and sounds louder whenever i burn out an 02 sensor, and quiets down once its replaced
