Default best choice exhaust for 396

I just bought a 68 ss 396/350hp and I am not happy with the current exhaust that is on there right now. I am not sure what is on there right now but all I know is that it is pretty quiet. At idle there is very little rumble. It sounds ok, I guess, when I accerlerate, but at cruising speed you cant even hear it. I am looking for that low, deep rumble that I hear in other 396's.
Also, currently the exhaust tips turn down under the car and are not exposed. I personally like the look of dual exhaust sticking out the back, but will it ruin the original look of the car? It is a very original SS and I dont want to make it look "cheezy" in any way. Any suggestions out there.
Thank you

Default RE: best choice exhaust for 396

how far do you want to go with your exhaust? what would sound killer would be headers (to help with that excaping exhaust frequency leaving the head, Think about it) ,2.5" collecters , 2 disk Car Chemistry insert PN 176-2DI25R (jegs) 18003454545 , then into a 3 chamber flow master or a dynomax turbo muffler. then with the turndowns just under the backseat. the reason for the inserts is for their awesome gain for throttle response and low end torqe for the street with the option of tunning for WOT noise level, The headers being a 1 7/8" primary tube. just a thought. good luck
