What to look for?
If this was a ford forum we would have a long list of things that are common problems, hahahaha. Any ways engines avail for those years were 207, 231 or 350. All with the different trans types.
The biggest problem with 93-97 Z28s is the optispark distributor. (Do a search in the LT1 forum and you will see.) The z28s only had a 5.7L 350 V-8 called the Lt1. Transmissions werea manual 6 speed(t-56) and automatic 4 speed(4l-60(e)). The engines are very strong and will run a long time if they are properly maintained. Look around for oil leaks from the oil pan, intake manifold and front timing chain cover. Make sure the electric cooling fans are operating correctly. Other than that just check the normal stuff you would on any car. Good luck ...they are great cars!
